CENTENARY

History

It is very difficult to compress more than four hundred years of history into a few lines, but so that the most curious do not miss out on knowing some of the secrets that these centuries-old walls hold , here they are.

Upon arrival, Casa do Sear welcomes the visitor with a coat of arms that rises above the main gate of the house.

From the coat of arms and the weapons represented in its partitions, the relationship of the construction with the Pazo de Barbeitos (San Xurxo de Cotovade) and with the García Flores Palace , one of those belonging to the Provincial Museum of Pontevedra , can be deduced.

Quartered in a cross, the shield features the Estévez, Suárez, Flores, Fariña, Matos, and, most notably, García families. The Cross of Santiago is placed amidst a Baroque-style decoration that surrounds the shield, which is surmounted by a plumed helmet.

The year 1742 can be read in an inscription above the stone lintel , although the building dates from 1591 .

The main gate leads to an interior courtyard , where a Baroque balustrade can be seen. This borders a small platform at the top of the stone staircase .

On the land surrounding the house , the three-bay granary, the stone dovecote, and the mine fountain are preserved .

Casa do Sear was originally known as "La Torre del Sear," but later, for many years, it was called "La Casa del Coronel" (The Colonel's House) , since, according to history, it belonged to a Colonel before coming into our family's hands. In fact, many neighbors were convinced we would keep that name once it was restored.

Since 2001, all the locals have recognized it as "Casa do Sear" , as well as those who have spent a day in our facilities.
